If the override passes, not a single new police officer or firefighter will be added. And if it fails, not a single firefighter or police officer will be laid off. Despite pronouncements by some on public television and in the newspapers that much of this tax increase is going to public safety, only 2% of the override is directed toward funding the police department budget and less than 4% is earmarked for the fire department budget.
